Stakeholders are calling for a community rally on Friday, May 31, 2024, to raise awareness about a current proposal in the Governor’s budget. This proposal could delay the final stage of service provider rate reform implementation by one year to 2025-26. This will cause challenges by providers in hiring an adequate number of direct care staff, which helped initiate rate reform acceleration in 2022-23. Providers indicate that a continuing shortage of direct care staff could delay service provision to individuals and families served by the regional center system, as providers might have to decline services to these individuals due to lack of available staff.
